I have had the same problem I can use and image but not and avatar.
Is that what the problem is you are trying to use an avatar or are you just trying to use and image?
Get back and I will see if we can solve the issue.

Ok you must take the image and edit it rather resize it and make sure that its size does not exceed the 6kb.
pixels are the dots as in inches lets say but not inches (so many make and inch)you have to set your image program so you see the size as that and not inches.
If you want send the image to me via email and I will adjust if i can for you and see if I can upload it and set it in for you later.

Sometimes if you save it under another format then that itself will bring it under the 6kb size.
