Heavy pier rod advice

I am looking to see if I should use the rod i have or buy a heavier version.
Right now:
Shimano Teramar SE 8ft spinning rod line weight 15-40lbs casting weight 1-3oz
I need to use it as an all round "big fish rod" like one of you use those 9ft conventionals rods, except i hate conventional reels..
So will stick with spinning rods Shimano has a heavier one rate 20-40lbs casting weight 2-5 oz, should i get it or stick with what i have?
