Shock leaders for long distance casting.

Post by threeouncesinker »

How many of you hard core surf/off the pier tee fisherman in here actually use shock leaders with your surf set ups? Do you feel it is "essential," in long casting when using elevated ounces of lead, when casting long distances? One article read only to use shock leaders when pendu :happyfisherman: lum casting. Any overhead casting, it would not be needed. Any help in this would be great. Please do not respond if you do not know what he hell I am talking about!! Thanks and tight lines.

I usually use them, especially if I am casting 4 ounces or more. Usually about 2 rod lengths of 50 lb mono. I'll tie my rig straight to my mono if the water is clear and the fish are hitting lightly.
