I needed to better understand the difference between rod "action" and "power" and this URL helped me.
http://www.rofb.net/faq/faq_rodaction.htm
What it did not cover in enought detail was "power" recommendations.
Am considering purchasing a rod with "medium light" power and Xtra fast action to use for fishing around piers and jetties in the Tampa / Charlotte area.
I like the lure weight range of this 7 foot 1 piece rod from 1/8 to 3/4 ounce.
Am just not sure if the power rating of "medium light" is enough to pull fish away from structure / pilings.
Am thinking it would be for the majority of the fish I would hook wading around the beaches, ICW and fishing from piers but thought I would ask to see if someone could confirm this.
Thanks for any input.

if you want to pull fish from pillons and struc you need a stiff rod not to much action rods with a lot of action are good for smaller fish ytails, macks etc.

I agree with these guys. I think you are going to need two rods, one for around more structure and one for open grass flats to really be happy.
