guys i put 300 yards of 25lb mono on my new jigmaster. I can troll with this thang fine can't I? For macks and dolphin?

no black. It's brand new

i got mine full of 40 lb

how many yards did 40lb give you? Or did you use braid. I just ordered the 2nd spool today, so I can maybe put 40lb on it eh? 300 yards of 25lb mono on the main spool

in a boat you should be ok .i put 40 for pillons

Depending on the troll speed and size of lure it can destroy your reel if it is not ment for trolling. I recommend using the Senator reels for trolling.

SS Where are you going to fish in Georgia?

a mack is not going to do anything to the reel. but a big bull maybe .SS used the reel and put 40 lb test .sorry i though you were local dont know how is the fishing in Georgia.

if can return it and change for a red 4/0 will be better this reels take punishment dont know how is your money situation tho.

It is not about the reel being able to handle the fish. It is the stress and abuse to the drag when trolling.

true /but he could change the gear sleve to a stainless will increase the drag power but will have spend more money bla bla bla its true bolo a 4/0 red will be ideal.

I fish in the panhandle. My wife has a house in Mexico Beach, 30 minutes from Panama City. I'll use my senator 6/0 to troll then until i get a 4/0, just to be safe. I got the Jigmaster mainly for the pier, was just curious if it would be ok to troll.

Jigmaster will be great for pier and bottom fishing. Targeting big fish use 4/0 for bottom.

And if people start beating me up on the pier, I'm gonna tell 'em, "Just wait, Bolo will be up here in 8 1/2 hours to rough em up"

That is what the 4/0 is for.

You can now beef up that Jigmaster by replacing the standard gear sleeve with an Alan Tani stainless steel one which you can get from Scott's Bait & Tackle for $21.00. This means you can now use more than 8lbs of drag without the original gear sleeve being rounded off. It's also a good idea to fit the fine toothed sleeve as this gives greater control over the drag. You will also need the corresponding fine tooth star drag which may already be fitted to your reel.
