They turned yellow in the cooler. I don't use ice, I use a sealed jug of frozen water, so the fish stay kinda dry. The yellow areas are where they touched each other. I wouldn't touch any farm-raised fish, especially from China.

But hey, it's good to get reminded why I rarely post any reports/pics in this place any more.

I can't see the pictures either but pompano are like snook in regards to color. Ocean run fish are silver and inside fish have a yellow tinge to them.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Wulfie are we getting sensitive in our old age? I did notice you haven't been posting pics in a while but I just thought it's because you won't cart your arse off of the Pompano Pier and we know how spectacular that fisherie has been the past 17 years. You do know you can catch pompano on other piers. Like you can catch cudas in the Keys not just on Cuda Pier like that.

I understand kblue has your pic framed framed In his bedroom. Thinks they are commie pomps. :reeling: Love that kid

The commie pomps are more rare because of the one child thing

1) the pomps were caught at Pompano Pier 10/19/15
2) they were normal silver color upon landing, and nice and fat too
3) I placed them into a plastic bag in the cooler
4) put a frozen jug on top of bag
5) later on they were joined by some bluefish in the bag

At home I was pretty surprised myself to see how yellow the pomps had turned, especially on the areas where they were touching each other.

Oh, and...

6) they tasted frickin' awesome!

Btw, on another note, KOS, I hope by "your pic" you meant the fish... :pale:

I recalled my pompanos I caught from pompano pier turned into yellow because the pier is close to my house and I never put ice in the cooler...

What is so clever about it?
I can always catch my yellow pompanos... specially at commie super market (food town) next to Jared's house...
I only need to bring cooler without ice...no qty/size limit... I am sure you can get fresher yellow pompanos there as west coast is closer.
If you ask nicely, maybe one of commies will tell you...lol

Fished from 5-6 today, threw a gotcha and a yo-zuri and didn't see any action except a lizardfish. Left when the rain got too hard. Only saw a couple tiny runners and a decent porgy caught. No bait/macks/pomps/blues seen.

Went late afternoon to eve, pretty dead for everything except.... RABBITFISH BONANZA! Wow, every cast produced a hit by these things. They were cutting off everybody's hooks too. I wasn't in the mood to risk my life over a meal, so they all went back. Hard fighting critters these rabbitfish.

one time, I caught about frigging 7 LB rabbit on my fat silver spoon... I thought I caught something nice...never thought rabbitfish... They eat anything...And they seem to be pretty fast if they want.

Wonder if the pelican that ate the one I caught the other day was risking his life....he was very eager and after hook was removed he managed to nab it and proceeded to swallow.

I was just there in the morning on the 10th, it was still open. Did you actually see it closed? Or I guess they closed it later in the day maybe. I have to agree the place has gotten unsafe, I've been seeing so many "lawsuits waiting to happen" on those planks lately.

BTW, the fishing totally sucked. Conditions looked great for Pomps, but nobody got any, and only a handful have been caught recently. Since they're getting them N and S of us, I'm thinking the Pompano are passing by here in deeper water.

Did you notice how the project is coming along across the street at the parking lot. That will probably have to be completed before the pier is renovated

The $7 million new pier will be in the shape of a fish -- a pompano, of course.

Yeah, saw that one, but it's pretty vague. They say a year, which probably means closer to eighteen months or two years.

The overall plan sounds strangely familiar. Wonder If I'll see the pier design I submitted to Fort Lauderdale 3 years ago, reshaped like a fish?

The same knucklehead that screwed the pooch sinking the barge was hired to build the pier that's going to be in the shape of a pompano?????? Great choice. (tommy Do they honestly think a pier is like a big duck decoy that attracts a specific fish? Yo, Krash if ithat acutually works your buying Anglins and changing it to look like a giant shaved pussy could increase the R.O.I. exponentially. Where would you fish?
