Lauderdale history, was born and raised in SW Miami around Bird Road and 112th, and remember some of the segregation, I seem to remember the local A&P had separate water drinking fountain's with signs, and the beach issues. We hit Key Biscayne and Virginia Beach was designated for non-whites and the white folks had the rest of Key Biscayne beaches.

Close, 11000 47th... my sister and I went to RP in the 50's, then Riviera, and SW '67.

We lived on the main canal, actually moved in there long before the S. lake was opened... we had boats and I used to fish... but back then it was pretty simple, bream, lm bass, catfish, mullet, tarpon and shad... once in a while an eel. There used to be some large fresh water shimp too.
Caught many many lm bass....
Would love to have access to put my canoe and/or SUP in there now, there must be some serious Peacock Bass.

How do you get to the North Jetty? Do you have to walk down from Ft. Lauderdale Beach Park? Behind the Marriot it says private beach, but you can walk along the water, right?

Yes. Once you access the beach just walk down in the surf as far down as you wantt. If someone mentions no fishing on the beach during the day just tell you're going to the jetty

I found there is a public access point that is closer than Ft. Lauderdale Beach Park. Link below. It was convenient for me riding my bike there.

Is there any parking ? how much per hour ? Does it allow overnight parking if we fish overnight there ?

went out to the jetty a few nights ago and it was windy and rough, had a great night though, hooked into at least 3 snook and landed 2 of them, one of the snook was an overslot and the other was 32 inches on the dot and a keeper. both snook were caught on flairhawk jigs.

thanks everyone, hit the jetty a couple times since that night for some brief fishing after getting out of work, its been pretty slow, ive caught a few bluefish but snook bite was quiet, after all the wind subsided and it cooled off slightly the fishing has as well. according to some of the other regulars I see out there all the time the snapper bite has slowed down a bit.

Hey everyone - I usually fish the beach on the north side of the jetty. Been crazy busy with work so I'm afraid I've missed the mullet run entirely. Please tell me that I'm wrong and they are still somewhat thick? Lol

I recall in past years they had a specific forum or thread setup for the fall migratory baitfish run. Don't see it this year. Just curious if anyone can provide a mullet activity report for this area. I assume it's too late but fingers crossed!

The run is coming to an end. There will still be schools coming by but as a guideline by Halloween the run is done.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

I fished the jetty a few times at night over the past few weeks. Most of the time it was slow with a bite or two a night or sometimes no bites. The ballyhoo were around most nights but out of range. It was frustrating to see them getting nailed 50 yards out in the inlet and I could do nothing but spectate :( .
One night a school of margates came through and kept the poles bent for a while. I caught a nice big chunky one that I ended up releasing cause I had kept 2 smaller ones already. Those things fight hard.

The ladyfish and bluefish were around on the windier nights and i managed to get a decent blue around 22 inches would be my guess but my cooler stops at 20 inches. Margates were caught on sand fleas. Bluefish were caught on sardines/grunts.

Now that snapper season is here, I've been fishing the jetty a lot more lately. Some nights were good. Other nights not so much . Caught lots of seaweed, rocks, eels  , and also some grovers, a short red grouper, a schoolmaster, and a mahogany snapper. All fish were caught on cut bait and were between 12 and 19 inches. I saw a guy pull up a 23 in mutton too (lucky bastard lol) Here are a few pics.

Went out las night. Caught 3 mutton, a grover, a bunch of grunts, hooked up with a couple sharks including a 4 ft blacktip I popped off near the rocks, and jumped a tarpon. Not a bad night. This is what I ended up keeping.

Those are nice fish! I've avoided the Jetty, but frequent Dania Pier and the beach North of it. How are you presenting your baits along the rocks? I guess my concern would be snagging the bottom. Are you freelining your cut bait on a light jig head? Should I use a sinker (egg or bank) to hold the bait at the bottom?

Thanks!

Any rounded style sinker should work. Helps reduce snags. However, you're still going to get snagged but that's the cost of doing business. Call it an investment; nothing ventured, nothing gained. Trust me I have a lot invested in that jetty lol.

Yeah I used to use them on Long Key Bridge. Tons of those pesky eels on that bridge.

Just saw an alert stating that the jetty at John U. Lloyd Beach State Park is closed.

https://www.floridastateparks.org/alert/Mizell-Johnson

Anyone been out there lately to see how bad the damage was?
