went to the jetty last night and what a night it was! with a nice full well of live pilchards I was hoping to have a better night than a few days ago, I freelined the first pilchard and moments later felt a thump, to my suprise it was a small nurse shark! minutes later hooked about a 20-30lb tarpon and got about 4 jumps out of him, unfortunately my tarpon curse continues and ended up losing him moments later when he jumped again. about an hour later one of my bottom rods got nailed, the fish ran very hard and thought I had a big jack on, when I saw it was a big snook I instantly had a huge smile on my face, snook taped out at 40 inches! officially making it my biggest snook and putting me in the 40 inch club! awesome night!!

yeah Ive never seen the jetty that packed before at night, it was insanely packed. there was 2 guys fishing next to me with their entire family, turns out the 2 guys were 2 guys I follow on instagram so I was able to have a very nice chat with them during the slower times, one of them even helped me haul the big snook up the jetty and helped me with the rod too, I was very grateful for their help. the nurse shark I caught was small barely 2 ft in length, I considered keeping him for shark bait lmao but tossed him back instead.

I've seen it packed when the ribbonfish are around.

Jetty report (north side)
variety of bait, pilchards/sardines , baby runners, croaker, baby pompano looking schools.

Lots of Barracuda, some mangrove snapper, saw one tarpon roll through and one hammerhead. Snorkeler saw a few Snook.

I only caught Barracuda and needlefish on pilchards.

This was for three consecutive days in mid August from 4 to 7pm, calm conditions

Hit up the jetty last night after work with only artificials, went 0-4 on tarpon, at least I got some to hit, wasnt a total loss

Anybody want to meet me out there Monday morning? :)

In all seriousness - what is your experience with fishing before and after a hurricane?

Be at the jetty the night or morning after the storm passes. The muttons can get blown in big time. I have seen limits of muttons caught off jetties after a storm passes by.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

The storm should already be pushing fish they sense everything and the pressure systems are already shifting.

How do you fish the south side at night? Doesn't john Lloyd close at sunset?

Buy a fishing pass at the front gate you can go in after hours usually half hour after the park closes like 65 for single and double for family pass.

Went to the jetty from 8am-5pm today. I caught a legal 16.5in mutton right away but released it. A few hours later I caught a tarpon on bottom and it was kind of small so my friend helped me land it. 2 storms passed through and right after my friend lost a big jack right at the rocks. Then my snapper rod got hit I thought it was a ray or shark because it was taking a good amount of line but it was huge mutton my personal best. :happyfisherman: It was 27in I tried a fish weight calculator using length and girth and it said 12lbs. We were using fresh ballyhoo. I also put crabs out on the sand but no bites.
