Surgery tomorrow
Some of you guys may know, but I am having surgery tomorrow at 8am to repair the AC joint in my left shoulder... I was going to have it done a couple weeks ago but did not want to miss the jigging trip April 1st. I will be off the water for at least a week, hopefully back at it soon though. As soon as I am coherant, I will let everyone know how it went....

Re: Surgery tomorrow
All the best Bro. Make sure the Dr gives you the good stuff, cause we all know Nobody get's you high like the doctor
Seriously though, if you cut the dosage in half and double the frequency you'll be more comfortable, and you'll heal faster and better. Like if it says take one every 6 hours, take a half every 3 hours. That way you never let the pain spike. Makes the whole ordeal much easier on you. Pain med's slow healing. And I know a little bit about pain med's.
Keep us posted and if you need anything I'm a phone call away...
Well that and a 4 hour ride

Re: Surgery tomorrow
Thanks for all the well wishes guys... Here is the skinny, The AC joint is where the end of the clavical meets the top of the shoulder ball joint. My clavical has extended into the ball joint, causing severe pain when the shoulder is raised to a point where the joint "binds". This has been going on for almost a year now, just been getting progressively worse. Now the joint grinds and pops, and has been affecting my fishing & I can't have that. The good news is it has not caused any real ligament or tendon damage yet. The fix is simple enough... The Dr. is going to cut about 1" off the end of the clavical and remove the "clean up" the affected area. Sounds easy snough right?????? Surgery is at 9am... when I am coherent enough I will update everyone on how it went. Again thanks for all the well wishes.

Don't let em cut an inch off the wrong end! That would mean you would be in the negative!!! Not that I would know or anything!!!team fin addicts wrote:The Dr. is going to cut about 1" off the end.

Re: Surgery tomorrow
Well, I made it through!!! I had a nerve block done just before the surgery, so i was numb from my left ear down to my left fingers.... Dr was able to do the sugery arthroscopically and it went better than we had hoped... got Hydrocodone for pian meds... Nerve block started to wear off last night, so I took Pat's advice and cut them in half but increased the frequency.... worked great, can't thank you enough for that advice Pat.
Recovery will be better than I had hoped as well. The sling comes off today at 1:00pm!!!! I have excercises that I have to start today. Post op follow-up on Friday 4-20 and could be back on the water as soon as Friday 4-20!!!!!!
Permit53, get your weekend in order bud, there are a couple Kings with my name on them!!!!! I want to sincerely thank each of you for your well wishes. A person can go through life and never know how many lives they touch, until something like this comes up and people come from everywher to wish you well, or tell you, you are in our thoughts & prayers... It is truly a humbling feeling. Again, I sincerely thank each of you.

Re: Surgery tomorrow
Be carefull of that Rob, pretty sure Vico/hydrocodone is part tylenol, Not sure what's in tramadol but Ibuprofin (sp) is even better. No cross over and it reduces swelling which promotes healing.
Alternating tylenol and advil is very effective and safe, no cross over.
The half by double reduces the constipation, drinking lot's of water help's as well.
But concrete poo is a trademark of opiate's. Morphine is the worst.
Now the secret to end the constipation, 1 table spoon of Citrate of Magnesia every 6 hours while taking Vico, Oxy, morphine, any opiate really. Keeps every thing moving.
Glad to hear it went well Wayne. And happy to help Bro.

Great to hear Buddy! I find Scotch to be a viable alternative to Wolverine healing powers. Don't make you heal at all, just makes you not care.
Good luck and catch em up Bro!
