Overhead view Spillway tactic.

Post by BulBob »

If you fish spillways there are some very good reasons to use BulletBobbers or DualFins. They are castable mini planer boards that flip direction when given a little tug by flicking your rod tip. This allows you to keep your lure or bait in the water and steer them where you want. You can set the depth to avoid snags or slip rig the BulletBobber to drop down by releasing line tension.

The picture below shows 2 overheads that are typical for many small spillways...these tactics can also be used when fishing from bridges, jetties or when wading. The red ovals show where to stand to get the planing angles you need to cover the entire area without recasting. The blue lines represent your fishing line, the orange arcs represent the side to side planing action and the red lines with arrows indicate how you can cover entire the area by letting out or reeling in some line. There are similarities between what the BulletBobber and the DualFin can do and a stunt kite.
