Hey everyone--I've been looking for some new input for strange, quirky old time bait shop humor around the state of Florida.

I'm not sure if you guys remember this column I wrote about the skeleton at Jensens down on Captiva.

However, this is some of the stuff I'm looking for.

I found a bait shop in Sarasota that has a pet egret they allow to walk around the shop and actually cull out the floaters in the bait holding tank. They even have a name for it. LOL

That will be the subject of a future column.

If anybody know any funny, quirky stories like that at your local bait and tackle shop. Please post up or let me know through an email.

I'm sure there's gotta be some other good ones out there.

Bolo--Thank, I reposted it to jog my fellow anglers' memories of funny stuff they may have seen at their local are bait and tackle shops.

You see any odd, funny stuff around the shops down there?

I dont remember the name of the shop, but it was the one south of Marathon with the big Hammerhead hanging on the sign. this was 3 years ago I think. The oldtimer and I came down for a week of wading the flats, and were looking for some shrimp. We stopped in as a last resort, and they had a beautiful tuna replica hanging. Now John has a thing for nice fish mounts, it takes him a year before he decides on a new mount. He asked the guy how much he wanted for it, and I was floored, because John is soo picky. The guy says I'll give it to you if you can tell me what kind of tuna that is, in a smart assed tone. John replies, "Damn hawse, thats a big black fin tuna, I'm not a dumbass!" they guy seemes literally shocked that John knew what it was, which in all honestly theyre not that hard to identify, especially to someone who has used them for marlin bait for over 35 years. Any ways the guy refuses to honor his bet, John calls him an fishing, and says your the kind of person that wont stay in business for another year. We come back the next year, and low and behold they are no longer in business.

On another note close to the Kmart down there was a fly shop/bait store on the right as you are heading south. The guys in there were cool as hell, and really generous with the shrimp. They are closed now, what happened to them?
