You are totally right, $500 for a fishing rod is ridiculous no matter where you are fishing, but thats not the point. Dude already spent 500 bucks on a surf rod, and snapped it. If he's willing to drop that kind of coin on a rod for the bridge, why not get a custom rod built for the task that won't snap so easily?

Yes, now, I understand why people go for custom rod... It is hard to find 10 ft spinning rod with short butt.
Most off-the-shelf long spinning rods I can find are surf casts that Rare warned me not to use on bridge.

Blue you are one of my favorite posters and my comment is definitely not directed exclusively to you. It's all in fun anyway.......but all of you rich kids always crack me up when your fancy, expensive, but totally unnecessary gear $hits the bed and you are left holding garbage. A $500 fishing rod??????????? To catch blue runners and macs on a public pier lol? Hell my $2 yoyo works just fine and is 100% indestructible. I don't have to worry about "high stick" angle, parabolic limits or any of that crap. Admittedly, the drag sucks but beyond that I have no complaints. It must be kinda adequate because I understand it's been around for a while now.

Get a $500 cash refund, buy one of those crummy 10' Ugly Stiks and you can "high stick" to your heart's delight without problem. Then take the remaining $475 (lol) and put it towards your July adventure. Better investment.

You can buy these already built from different places if you don't want to wait for a builder. You can also have them build it as a spinner if thats what you prefer. They aren't cheap, and quite a few other options out there if you don't want to spend too much. I personally can't see myself using a $300+ rod and beating it to hell on a bridge, but they are a sick rod.

Not for bridge fishing.

He said shipping cost for 9 ft rod will be $60.

These rods do not have a real seet, which is why they are that cheap. DH= deck hand style rod, and you just clamp your reel to the rod. Nothing wrong with them, but something to be aware of.

Guilty as charged my friend. Besides the that rod Ronnie built the St. Croix rods are hands down my absolute favorite. I admit I am very surprised at the failure. As far as "high sticking" in Jersey.......you should see my crew "high sticking" the slob tautog with braided line in fifty feet of water. I've seen many rods explode chasing that fish but, you have to admit it is hysterical when someone swings and misses. I think we should do it together someday.

Well the meatbox rod was a little longer since it has like 5 or 6 different design techniques incorporated. Hours not sure do not remember but not out of this world.

The Cudaman rod was a little more easy since it has only the abolone shell which installs easy. The more was the coloring of the hair from the maiden LMAO

Good point about snake guide and mono. I plan to use small two-speed reel with 50LB braid as recommended. no snake.
I had to find guide... But FUJI guides were expensive... I think I need 10 ...

Since the rod will be conventional and deep drop, can I use all same size of small guide except for top?
