Getting the drag right

Post by rhorm »

I've pretty much fished with lures or either held on to my rig or had a rod holder . One time though I was @ tybee island in georgia and lost a new setup to a big hit. Rig went clear over the rail. Now my i'm very reluctant to leave my setup and relax and wait. My drag wasn't tight but, I guess tight enough. How loose do you guys/gals leave your drag to feel comfortable leaning it against the rail with a light spinning rig? Getting ready to do some king fishin from the pier and I already know I'm going to be super loose with it out of paranoia.

You can always fasten a rod with a bungee cord if on a bridge or pier.

Good ideas from the previous posts. I use a Shimano velcro strap as Jad1097 suggested using a bungee. A baitrunner reel would be nice. :-)
