
Here is how the hook is rigged. Notice that the line does not go through the eye of the hook.

The weight holder is a piece of small rubber tubing tied to a swivel. The swivel is tied to the end of the line and a length of solder, bead chain or a nail slips into the end of the rubber tubing. The hook and bait rides hook-up a foot or so above the weight. I sometimes add a tiny float just above the hook. The weight will pull the float under. The float serves to keep the rig vertical and the bait slightly above bottom where it is more visible.
