If there are Bonefish around, what else should I expect?

Post by ikaika »

Yesterday , my wife broke the bonefish skunk :D

with two bones in 15 minutes on the incoming...

Bones wouldn't touch 3/8 oz jig tipped with shrimp :x

nor would they show interest in a shrimp tip'd 1/4 oz slider jig :x

Wife was fishing with a somewhat heavier than normal outfit, but you never know what's gonna hit... (30lb PP braid <10lb diameter>, bimini'd to 60lb clear mono leader, with a 3/4 rubber core about a yard from a very small hook)

I figure if bones are in the area, what else should I expect?

Permit? Tarpon? Snook?

I'd hate to downsize only to wind-up elephant hunting with a .22...

I'd say mostly Permit tailing in the flats, some Tarpon will go into some pretty shallow water too but also if you have any channels or drop offs in the area where alot of fish will run to when hooked, Tarpon can be around. Snook and Red's are a possibility too depending where, in the Keys you could see a Snook timed not too far apart from a Bone on the flats.
