This fish was found dead on the shoreline while fishing a freshwater lake in New Jersey. It looks familiar, somewhat like some of the fish found in the waters of the Everglades. I'm hoping someone here can help out. Thanks

Many thanks for the very fast reply! Now I can go read and see what this fish was doing on the bank of NJ and we can all get our sanity back.

Funny thing about it is that is was caught in NJ. C.Knifes are tropical water fish needing warmer water than what NJ has to offer.
Im surprsied it could even live up there. What was the overall messurement?

Yep, def a clown knifefish. I bet that it was released in the lake by someone sometime late this spring or summer, and the cold weather this fall killed it. No way that species could surivive winter in NJ.

Sorry for the late reply...LOL. But I live in New England and a manitee (maybe the same one you read about) was seen up in Rhode Island at about the same time frame (roughly two years ago)
