Fish ID

Post by bubbafishin »

I caught a fish in NW FL last weekend from the beach on a spoon that I accidently foul hooked. It had little spines on it an I thought it was just some baitfish and took it off the hook. Then a spine stabbed my palm and then I felt a bad burning sensation that took a long time time go away. The fish was small and i think it had some yellow on its fins. I caught a couple more because there was a school of them with macks and bluefish behind it so if i didn't get a strike when i casted past the school i would have to reel through it and possibly snag another one. I don't have a picture but hopefully someone will know what it is based on the description

Google LeatherJacket. People caled them SkipJack too.

The prostitute replied (wiping away tears), "When the check bounced."

Yet another poisonous fish that I had to learn about the hard way.

Just as an fyi (for future reference when handling these fish) it was the spine on the bottom side of the fish (just in front of the anal fin) that caused you all the grief
