Pompano Pier

Post by jstabile »

My young daughter and I are going pier fishing for the first time today and I would appreciate any tips on tackle & non live bait that would keep her busy

Small pieces of cut squid or cut shrimp on a small chicken / pompano rig is tough to beat for bites and action for a young kid.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

A # 5 sabiki with cut squid is also a kid pleaser. You won't catch a lot of quality or fish for dinner with either of the above rigs. However you will keep your daughter happy catchingg fish and get her hooked so you have a future fishing buddy then you can go for the trophies and dinner. Kids fishing are fun they only want something wiggling on the hook, a hand size grunt is just as fun and exciting to them as a keeper snook.
