Short report...because I'm starving...
Woke up this morning to sunshine...looked like a nice day. Checked the weather and there was a chance of thunderstorm in the afternoon...but not enough to keep me at home.
Andrea and I met at the subway station. Just as we got out of the subway station, it stopped raining. Nice!
Weather felt cold though (for shorts and sandals anyways)...so I didn't really know how the carp will respond...
Well...first 15 minutes into it...
Another 15 minutes after the first one...
We thought it was going to be banging today...but then the weather dropped a few more degrees, the wind started blowing 25km/h, and the clouds moved in...totally dead...
It was dead for an hour...then all of a sudden, there was a break in the cloud. The sun came out for two minutes and my rod took a ripping hit. Good thing I clipped my rod with a carabiner clip...otherwise it would have been pulled in. The fish kept running...taking out 100 feet of line in 20 seconds. I had to jumped over a guard rails, hopped onto a dock and dip my line into the water as the fish ran under another dock. Just as I stopped the fish and started to get some line back, the fish ran into some underwater snags, got me wrapped on a large branch, and the fish twisted off the hook.
This one was definitely one of the biggest fish I've felt on the line...I wouldn't even begin to guess the size...but it was BIG!Clouds moved in again and it was dead. Another hour later, there was another patch of clear sky moving in. About 10 minutes worth of sunshine, Andrea's rod took a hit and he let me grab this one (he felt bad I lost my big fish
).
We stayed until 4pm and Andrea just couldn't stand the cold wind anymore...so we called it a day.
Of course...as soon as we were across the harbour, the sky cleared completely and the wind calmed down a bit. Oh well...we had a decent catch with tough conditions...I just wished we would have stayed another 30 minutes to see the conditions change.
I've always believe that these carp in this spot loves the sun...today was another testament how just a little sun made a lot of difference. Every time we had some sun, the air temp gets just a little warmer and the wind calms down just a bit, the fish were back on the chew. Too bad we never had any long stretch of that particular condition during our 3 hours...otherwise it would have been banging today!
