fished the inlet for a few hrs today round sunset .. not the jetty but the west side park area...not my fav spot to fish but for some reason my hubby likes that spot... nothing .. i caught 2 grunts ... swam one out..nothing... no one was catching anything.. there is a massive birds nest sunk in the water all the way in the right corner area... managed to reel in some lost rigs.. got some hooks and lead out of it... pissed me off cuz i told this one dude who was hooked on the bottom to hold his reel put his rod over his shoulder and walk away to free his line.. but he cut it adding to that massive birds nest...arrg... today must be lets not listen to jess day... im sure if we hit up the pier like i originally planned we wouldnt be eating leftovers tonight..hahah

Took a drive today and fished the north side for about 2 hours and caught nothing, didn't see anyone else catch anything either which is why I only lasted 2 hours. Its frustrating when the fish don't want to cooperate but that's how it goes :nilly: . I guess the sheepshead were biting early morning from what I was told. :nopity:

Hey thanks for the report! I like to call the times that I don't catch anything "scouting" missions. For those sheepsheads get some small crabs and drop it right on their nose. Best time is a calm day with an incoming tide.

Hey thanks for the tip. The conditions were half right. It was an incoming tide but not that calm. Ive been back living down here 7 years now and still cant manage to catch a sheepshead. I use to kill them up at sebastian and in mosquito lagoon as a kid. Not to many of them down here in lauderdale tho.

Not for sale that I know of. Gotta search them out the old fashion way, which is a whole nother chapter. Many people use baby stone crabs which I am pretty sure is illegal, again a whole nother chapter.
Just be aware. Also, I've kept fiddlers alive for 3 days no problem.

Tried to fly fish the north and south beaches of the inlet. Low surf, little wind, perfect for fly fishing. However, while I was there (7:30-11 am), no bait, no birds, no fish unless you count 2 small jacks...ugh!

Flat days are usually a good day to stay home. Since you fly fish maybe give the spillway a try.

Not sure where the spillway is. If it is where there is big current and/or I'm more than couple of feet above the water, it won't work. Let's hear...

Look up lake worth spillway. My buddy fly fishes from the spillway and lake worth pier when the snook are around.

Went fishing on the north side of the inlet by beer can island on the 10th. I caught 4 keeper mangroves. Released a lot of small ones. There was little to no mullet and jack activity. I was there for a couple of hours and I saw more than five mutton caught. All but one was under sized and all were kept

what kind of bait did you use ? i went there sunday, and i seen some huge ones at the bottom, but my shrimp/glass minnows would get eaten up by trash fish before i get a bite

I have caught lots of 'keeper' Snappers on hooks loaded with cut Squid. If you feel nibbles from the small fish reel in some or cast again. Other small live baits like small Grunts and Greenies work well on the bottom. Sometimes cut bait (Mullet, Sardines, Blue Runner) will work. Shrimp and Minnows are too delicate for bottom fishing there. :D

btw, Finding Mutton Snappers over 16" inshore is a real challenge.

The north jetty has been closed for repairs. South jetty and under the bridge at slack tide has seen Tarpon and Snook. Inside, south side, along the seawall on incoming tide has seen Mackerel, Blue Runners, Jack Crevalle and Skip Jacks. They will hit small spoons, DOAs and white feather jigs as well as live shrimp and small live bait if you can find some. The usual Barracuda and Stingrays along with smaller species present. Snapper fishing has slowed down.

The North Jetty is open again. Fishing is slow and Bait is scarce. Looking for Cold Weather to change things for the better. :D
