im really want a yak, theres only one thing that im a little worried about, BOATS when you guys are out there paddlin in the beach area or anywhere theres boat traffic how do you avoid being run over...

Even during lobster mini season there are plenty of boats around and have not had any problems...

I've gotten 3 hookups in the last 2 times out, and 2 out of the 3 times I did not get a hookset. The one time that I did, I didn't even know he was on until I started reeling it in to check the bait....

what do you think is the right length of a rod if i want to use it on the pier and surf and may be try it on a kayak ?

I think 8 is a nice mix.

Also you will not want to have the drag cranked down with a large fish on...a good sized Bonito is capable of flipping you if you fight him on the side with a locked...
